About City

Frankfurt am Main, often simply referred to as Frankfurt, is one of Germany's most dynamic and cosmopolitan cities. Located in the heart of the country, it is renowned as a global financial hub, home to the European Central Bank, the German Stock Exchange, and the headquarters of numerous multinational corporations. Its impressive skyline, dominated by modern skyscrapers, has earned it the nickname "Mainhattan," blending the river Main and New York’s Manhattan. Despite its contemporary appeal, Frankfurt boasts a rich historical and cultural heritage. The city's Old Town (Altstadt), meticulously reconstructed after World War II, features the Römer—a historic city hall—and the picturesque Römerberg square. Nearby, visitors can explore St. Bartholomew's Cathedral, where Holy Roman Emperors were once crowned.

Frankfurt is also a city of intellectual and artistic significance. It is the birthplace of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, one of Germany’s greatest writers, whose former residence is now a museum. The city's cultural landscape is enriched by its numerous museums along the Museumsufer (Museum Embankment), including the Städel Museum, which houses masterpieces spanning seven centuries. The city’s vibrant culinary scene reflects its international character, offering everything from traditional Hessian dishes like Grüne Soße (green sauce) to global cuisines. Local specialties, such as apple wine (Apfelwein), are celebrated in lively taverns, especially in the Sachsenhausen district.

Frankfurt's excellent transportation links make it a key gateway to Europe. Frankfurt Airport, one of the world’s busiest, connects the city to destinations worldwide, while its central railway station serves as a major European transit hub. Whether for its bustling trade fairs, including the world-famous Frankfurt Book Fair, its architectural contrasts, or its rich cultural offerings, Frankfurt is a city that seamlessly blends tradition and modernity, making it a must-visit destination in Germany.
